There are many chemical reactions occurring in our ponds, but by far the most important is the nitrification cycle. This is the process by which primary waste produced by our Koi in the form of excreta (poo) and urine, is processed and rendered harmless. This is especially important as Koi produce large amounts of toxic waste.

Organic waste material can be physically removed via our mechanical filtration systems, but the resulting highly toxic ammonia produced when waste is dissolved in our pond water, can only be removed via a chemical process, and this process is called the nitrification cycle.
