The Oaks Koi Farm Foods
Here at The Oaks Koi Farm we usually have around 800 – 2500 Koi in stock at any one time. Feeding that amount of Koi can be costly, but at the same time feeding a high quality diet, is very important.
Our range of professional Koi feeds offer excellent value for money, low waste properties and are very water stable, meaning they don’t pollute the water.
All our Koi, from the moment they arrive from Japan, are fed our range of foods, depending on the temperature and time of year we have a suitable feed for every season, and temperature. Our feeds all contain Actigen and BIO-MOS which improves growth, immune response, digestibility, and intestinal function, all very important to the well-being of Koi.
When new Koi arrive from Japan, they have been travelling in a bag for around 38 hours or more of late, and were prepared for the journey several weeks before leaving. Usually, Koi are without food for up to three weeks prior to making the Journey to England, so once they arrive with us and after a few days of relaxing in salt, we start building the temperature up throughout the quarantine period, and will ramp the temperature at least twice.
With temperatures getting up to 27°C we feed them our Ultimate Koi food as this has a high attraction, and high protein content, it’s a Prebiotic, that adds weight to them, and brings the Koi back into condition. Ultimate Koi food is made up of many high-quality ingredients and really excels at higher temperatures, this is our highest-quality growth food in the range.
It has to be said that Optimum Growth is our biggest seller, this is a Prebiotic Summer food that contains all that Koi will need, and it offers a very well-balanced diet.
Prestige Multi is what we would call a conditioning mix, so if your Koi are looking thin, or down on colour, then Prestige Multi would be the choice. It contains Wheatgerm with fatty Amino Acids which will bulk Koi up, Spirulina which is natural seaweed, suitable for colour and the immune system, and lastly, a red Astaxanthin ingredient which again will focus on the pigmentation of the skin, however, we wouldn’t recommend feeding this all year round.
Wheatgerm is a winter food and can be fed all year round, and down to a temperature of 5°C, lower than that, feeding should cease. We always recommend feeding Wheatgerm towards the end of the season, say from mid-October onwards (in unheated ponds anyway), as this will prepare your Koi for a period of overwintering, the fatty Amino Acids contained within the Wheatgerm will bulk the Koi up and provide a source of fat, once the koi is in a state of near hibernation. Wheatgerm is very easygoing on the Koi’s metabolism, so we also recommend starting the season on Wheatgerm, then as temperatures rise above 15°C switch over to a higher protein Summer food, either Optimum Growth or the next feed we will mention, Growth.
Our Growth food is our entry-level feed, still a Professional Koi feed, but with lower quality ingredients, now this doesn’t mean it’s rubbish, far from it, one thing it does mean, it is cheaper.
Within this range, you will surely find the appropriate diet for your Koi.
