There are many varieties of Koi and many variations too, and as time goes on new varieties keep popping up.

The Koi breeders in Japan strive to perfect the varieties they each produce, and from time to time a new variety is born, whether this is by mistake, or a throwback from choosing different Oyagoi (parent sets).

When we look at the varieties of Koi, some can be confusing and hard to pick which category of variety and name that it could be, which makes it difficult to understand.

Not everyone wants to know every variety of Koi, but most would like a basic understanding of the varieties they may have in their pond, or may look to purchase in the future.

We hope that when you read the section titled “Confusions” that some of this is banished.
