“Trying to run a Koi pond without kH is like trying to drive a car without petrol, or trying to light a candle in a vacuum!”…Paul White

The kH reading of your system indicates the level of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) in your pond water. This absolutely crucial water parameter is much overlooked and misunderstood, but is debatably THE single most important of all the water quality parameters in Koi systems!

Calcium Carbonate is the element that facilitates virtually every chemical reaction that occurs in your pond, from nitrification, respiration to nutrition! Without it, all the critical processes necessary for our ponds to function properly simply fail. It’s a bit like trying to light a candle in a vacuum or run your car with no petrol, nothing wrong with the car or the candle but without petrol or oxygen neither will work, without Calcium Carbonate neither will your pond!
