Koi Pond Electrics
When considering electric around water, safety is paramount, because water and electric are not a good mix.
Supplying a pond with electric to power all your water pumps, air pumps, Uv’s, and even a heater, requires planning from the start.
Running a Koi pond is relatively cheap, until you think about heating it, now heating isn’t a must, more of a luxury. (read more about heating and temperature in our Resource Centre)
An armoured cable of a certain size is what’s best to use to supply your pond with electric, when we say of a certain size, this means what load the cable can carry in terms of amps, and the load you are needing to power everything. An electrician can help you with this calculation, and install it all safely for you.
Using an armoured cable offers the best protection as it contains very robust insulating properties and is very strong, and not easily cut through, should you forget it’s buried, and be digging the garden up with a spade.
Anyway back to the point, once the armoured cable is in, and your electrician has terminated the cable into a consumer unit or similar, you can then think about how many waterproof sockets or switches are required to run all your devices.
The switch boxes we offer below are ones we use here at The Oaks, they offer convenience in so many levels, there are simple on / off switch boxes, right through to advanced switch boxes that have built in timers, and even pump guard to monitor and protect your water pumps.
The timer models can be especially useful if you want to install some lighting around your pond and have a timed facility to switch them on and off, depending on when your in the garden, throughout the year.
One thing that is important when selecting the right switch box, is it being waterproof, and up to the job it’s required to do.
The switch boxes we have on offer below are certainly well equipped for that task.
